Gestalt Language Protocol: Cheat Sheet

How we communicate in the Fun-ness Factory: Artist Mastermind

1. The Golden Rule: No Advice

Advice like "You should try..." or "Why don't you..." often feels like a "correct answer," which can shut down an artist's unique process.

  • THE SWITCH: Instead of giving advice, share a personal story of a time you faced a similar challenge.

2. Speak from the "I" (Experience Sharing)

We provide "data" from our own lives so the listener can decide if it applies to them.

  • DON’T SAY: “You should use Instagram more."

  • DO SAY: In my experience, when I started posting daily, I noticed a 20% increase in gallery inquiries."

3. Use the Past Tense

A great way to ensure you aren't giving "opinions" is to speak about things that have already happened.

  • TIP : If you are speaking in the past tense, you are sharing experience. If you are speaking in the future tense ("If I were you, I would..."), you are giving advice.

4. Eliminate the "Shoulds"

Words like:

  • s h o u l d

  • w o u l d

  • c o u l d

They’re often advice in disguise.

They create a hierarchy where one person knows "better" than the other. In this cohort, we are all peers.

5. Be Specific, Not General

Avoid broad generalizations like "Artists usually struggle with..."

Instead, be specific about your own journey: "When I was struggling with my pricing last year, I found that...".
