SUBSTACK: DON’T MURDER THE FUN-NESS

A Newsletter for creative practices, overthinkers & recovering perfectionists.

…because we thrive when play is protected & perfectionism is politely asked to leave.

Perhaps the wisest creative advice I ever received was…

from our fuzzy duck golden haired (almost three year old) little boy. I was trying to, OR maybe to stop him from doing something (I don’t even remember which anymore).

B U T

what is seared into my brain is in EXASPERATION HE DECLARED:

His words stopped me dead in my tracks.

They struck me deep.

Shocked knowing he was 100% right, I couldn’t understand how someone so young could be so wise? Was he a reincarnated guru?

From that moment on, whenever I find myself overthinking, tinkering, distracted…

(“Oh, hello a rabbit hole! Don’t mind if I do”!)

OR if I’m just plain murdering the doo-doo out of the fun-ness by overworking it

(um, yeah you perfectionism. I’m staring at you sneaky #$%*)

I pause.

I take a breath.

AND say to myself…

don't

murder
